Montreal Alouettes add Rhode Island quarterback Devin Farrell to negotiation list

The Montreal Alouettes have added American quarterback Devin Farrell to their exclusive negotiation list.

Farrell is entering his redshirt senior season at the University of Rhode Island, where he started all 14 games last season. The native of Stockbridge, Ga., completed 267-of-410 pass attempts (65 percent) for 3,745 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while rushing for 78 yards and three majors. He was named first-team All-Coastal Athletic Association and a third-team All-American, according to FCS Football Central.

The six-foot, 195-pound pivot has been with the Rams since 2023 and took over the starting job in his second season, earning third-team All-CAA honours. In 30 games, he has gone 393-of-627 passing (63 percent) for 5,474 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions, while running for 411 yards and eight touchdowns.

Farrell began his collegiate career in 2022 at Virginia Tech, but did not see game action as a redshirt.

CFL teams can claim the rights to up to 45 players via the negotiation list on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that they are not eligible for the Canadian or Global Drafts, and have never played in the league before. These players can be added, traded, or removed from the list at any time.

Being added to a negotiation list does not mean that the player has expressed interest in the CFL, and some are unaware that their rights have even been claimed. Players can only force their removal from the list if the team does not provide them with a minimum contract offer at their request.

The Montreal Alouettes (5-1) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-3) at Percival Molson Stadium on Sunday, July 26, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Tiger-Cats narrowly beat the Toronto Argonauts this past week, while the Alouettes completed their home-and-home sweep of the Calgary Stampeders.
