NFL 2.0? Chargers and Chiefs to play game in Mexico City next season

While the CFL may be looking at playing games in Mexico as early as this season, the NFL has scheduled another contest in Mexico City for 2019, the league announced Monday.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers will square off at Azteca Stadium, where the league played games in 2016 and 2017. The Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams were scheduled to play there last November but the game was moved to Los Angeles because of poor field conditions.

The league will also play four games in London, England where the NFL has played games since 2007. Dates for the international contests next season have not been finalized.

Last November, the CFL and the Liga de Futbol Americano (LFA) signed a letter of intent to work together on several projects, including the staging of a future CFL game in Mexico City. Earlier this month, the CFL and the LFA held a combine and a draft of Mexican players, some of whom are expected to participate in rookie and training camps this spring.
