Davis Sanchez, Paul Osbaldiston selected for B.C. Football Hall of Fame

The B.C. Football Hall of Fame is inducting four new members this year, it was announced on Monday. The organization will also honour several others with awards next month.

Those being inducted include Davis Sanchez and Paul Osbaldiston as professional athletes, Javier Glatt and Rob Moretto as amateur athletes, and Grant Kerr as a member of the media.

Sanchez played 155 regular-season CFL games over stints with the Montreal Alouettes, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Football Team, and B.C. Lions. The native of Delta, B.C. won three Grey Cups, earned three All-East Division selections, one All-CFL selection, and recorded 330 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, 28 interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and two sacks.

The 52-year-old also spent two seasons with the San Diego Chargers. He played 22 regular-season games with the team, making 18 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, and one pass knockdown. Sanchez now works as an analyst for the CFL on TSN.

Osbaldiston played 304 regular-season CFL games as a member of the Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He made 669-of-927 career field goal attempts (72.2 percent), 676-of-679 convert attempts (99.6 percent), and punted 2,142 times for 89,093 yards (41.6 yards per attempt).

The native of Oldham, England won two Grey Cups, earned five All-East Division selections, and three All-CFL selections. He was named the Most Valuable Canadian of the 74th Grey Cup when the Tiger-Cats defeated Edmonton by a score of 39-15.

Glatt was a defensive standout at the collegiate level with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, where he was a three-time U Sports All-Canadian and three-time Canada West all-star. The Calgary, Alta. native played eight seasons in the CFL with B.C. and Edmonton, winning one Grey Cup and earning one All-West Division selection.

Moretto was a high school standout at Notre Dame Regional Secondary School. He also helped UBC win the Vanier Cup in 1986.

Kerr spent over 50 years covering sports including football, hockey, and baseball for The Canadian Press and the Globe & Mail. He also spent a brief time working for the Lions.

Others who will be honoured include the 1986 Vancouver Dolphins touch football national championship team, NHL play-by-play broadcaster Jim Robson, and CFL statistician Steve Daniel, who will receive the CFL Bob Ackles Award.

The Frank Smith Coach Builder Award will also be handed out for the first time, with the inaugural recipient being Bill Cole, a longtime coach at Notre Dame Regional Secondary School. WJ Mouat quarterback Elijah Black will also be the first-ever recipient of the Larry Reda High School Football Scholarship Award.

“Our class of 2026 is an exemplary group of individuals who have shaped football, and in many cases continue to shape, football in the province of British Columbia,” said B.C. Football Hall of Fame CEO Tom Malone in a statement.

“These individuals have left an indelible mark on our great game, and we are looking forward to celebrating their formal induction on October 9.

“We are also extremely grateful to the B.C. Lions Football Club, team owner Amar Doman, and president Duane Vienneau for once again being a tremendous partner for us in helping us mark this occasion and the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame for hosting our induction ceremony.”

The ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 9 ahead of B.C.’s game against the Ottawa Redblacks.
