Canadian defender Patrick Burke Jr. signs with Rhein Fire

Canadian defensive back Patrick Burke Jr. has signed with the Rhein Fire, the team announced on Monday.

The 26-year-old played three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, recording five defensive tackles and 18 special teams tackles over 34 regular-season games. His contract with the team expired in February.

The six-foot, 200-pound native of Etobicoke, Ont. was originally a fourth-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft out of Wilfrid Laurier University. In 2022, he was named a second-team OUA all-star.

The Fire play in the newly-formed American Football League Europe (AFLE). The team is currently 5-1.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-3) will host the Toronto Argonauts (2-3) at Hamilton Stadium on Saturday, July 18 with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts are coming off a 30-21 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, while the Tiger-Cats lost 38-7 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The weather forecast in Hamilton calls for a high of 28 degrees and a 40 chance of rain. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 1050 in Toronto or the Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton.
