Winnipeg Blue Bombers release defensive back J. T. Hassell

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released American defensive back J. T. Hassell.

The five-foot-eleven, 199-pound cover man signed with the team last month and dressed for four games, recording two special teams tackles.

Hassell signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He dressed for seven games as a member of the Browns and New York Jets, recording eight total tackles.

The Titusville, Fla. native transferred from South Dakota State to Florida Tech as a junior and led the Panthers that same season with 78 tackles. He made 124 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles as a senior and was named first-team All-Gulf South Conference and the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

According to NFL Draft Diamonds, Hassell ran a 4.38-second forty-yard dash at his pro day and recorded a 4.26-second short shuttle, 6.84-second three-cone drill, 23 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, a 121-inch broad jump, and a 42-inch vertical jump.
