The Calgary Stampeders will field a mix of established starters and newcomers for their preseason opener against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Monday.

Vernon Adams Jr. is listed as the starter at quarterback for the exhibition contest, though it is unclear how long he will play. Josh Love, Ben Wooldridge, and Jacolby Criswell are the other passers dressed.

The entire projected starting offensive line will protect Adams, with established receiver Jalen Philpot, Clark Barnes, and Erik Brooks all taking first-team reps. Defensively, starters Charles Wiley, Kyle Wilson, Marquel Lee, Anthony Johnson, Jaydon Grant, and Adrian Greene will all take initial reps at their usual spots, while free agent signing Devodric Bynum debuts at boundary halfback.

Bynum played 14 regular-season games as a CFL rookie with Edmonton in 2024, making 23 defensive tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble. The 26-year-old played only five regular-season games due to injury in 2025, recording 17 defensive tackles with the Elks.

Notable veterans not suiting up for Calgary include running back Dedrick Mills, kicker Rene Paredes, defensive linemen Clarence Hicks and Miles Brown, safety Damon Webb, strong-side linebacker Derrick Moncrief, offensive lineman Bryce Bell, and prized free agent receiver signing Dejon Brissett. Receiver Reggie Begelton and defensive end Folarin Orimolade also remain on the injured veterans list.

Defensive end Khairi Manns, defensive tackle Devonte O’Malley, and Global kicker Jude McAtamney are the only players without previous CFL experience to be listed in the starting lineup.

The Stampeders will host the Roughriders at McMahon Stadium on Monday, May 18, at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The weather is expected to be mainly sunny with a high of 14 degrees and a risk of thunderstorms in the early evening. The game will not be broadcast on TSN, but can be streamed for free on CFL+.
