The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released American receiver Gerald Monroe.
He signed with the Blue and Gold in December.
Monroe recorded 249 receptions for 4,297 yards with 58 touchdowns over four collegiate seasons at Graceland University, an NAIA program located in Lamoni, Ia. The five-foot-ten, 185-pound Glenn Heights, Texas native also threw for one touchdown and returned 14 total kicks for 180 yards.
In 10 games during the 2024 season, Monroe recorded 84 receptions for 1,562 yards and 22 touchdowns along with two rushing attempts for 38 yards, a 23-yard kick return, three punt returns for 14 yards, plus five tackles. He was named first-team AFCA NAIA All-American, first-team All-Heart North, and the Heart North Offensive Player of the Year.
The Blue Bombers opened training camp on Sunday, May 10. Winnipeg plays its first preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday, May 23, and second preseason game against the B.C. Lions on Friday, May 29. Final roster cuts are due on Saturday, May 30, after which the team will play its first regular-season game against the Calgary Stampeders on Friday, June 5.
The Bombers selected Wake Forest defensive lineman Nuer Gatkuoth with their first-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft. The team’s other major offseason additions include receiver Tim White, offensive lineman Jarell Broxton, and defensive lineman Jake Ceresna.
In 2025, Winnipeg finished fourth in the West Division standings with a 10-8 record, qualifying for the playoffs as the crossover team before losing the East Semi-Final to the Montreal Alouettes.
