Toronto Argonauts sign QB Paxton DeLaurent

The Toronto Argonauts have signed American quarterback Paxton DeLaurent, the team announced on Monday morning.

The six-foot-five, 229-pound passer most recently played for the Orlando Pirates of the Indoor Football League (IFL). He completed 70.5 percent of his passes for 3,142 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions over 17 games in 2026. He also rushed 108 times for 391 yards and 17 scores to be named the IFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The native of Camdenton, Mo. finished his collegiate career at Southeast Missouri State University, an FCS program located in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He completed 61.0 percent of his passes for 8,563 yards, 63 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions over 30 games and was named the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2024. He also rushed 197 times for 459 yards and 10 scores.

DeLaurent attended rookie minicamp with the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs after going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft, though he wasn’t signed by either team.

The Toronto Argonauts (5-5) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-4) at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, August 29 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts are coming off a 39-20 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while the Roughriders lost in Vancouver by a score of 30-16.
