Chad Kelly makes his 2024 season debut for the Toronto Argonauts as the Double Blue host the West Division-leading Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Kelly was suspended for the first nine games of the 2024 campaign for violating the CFL’s gender-based violence policy and returns to BMO Field Thursday night.
The last time the 2023 Most Outstanding Player was on the field — last year’s East Division final, where the 30-year-old completed 21-of-36 passes for 246 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions in a loss to Montreal. The Alouettes went on to win the Grey Cup.
Also back in the Argos’ lineup is strong-side linebacker Quincy Mauger. The 29-year-old defender returns after he suffered a leg injury in Toronto’s June 28 loss to the Als. The first-year Argo has collected eight defensive tackles and two special teams tackles across three games this season.
While second-year man Mason Pierce draws out of the lineup, Mark Milton takes his place at boundary halfback.
Toronto signed the 24-year-old Milton on July 1 after he was released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after making one start at boundary cornerback, his CFL debut. The six-foot-one, 185-pound Baylor University product signed with the Carolina Panthers after going unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft but didn’t make the team’s final roster.
Canadian running back Daniel Adeboboye is listed as a game-time decision dealing with groin and ankle injuries.
Starters Wynton McManis, Darius Ciraco, Jared Brinkman, and Dejon Brissett all remain on the six-game injured list.
