The Calgary Stampeders have signed American receiver Tony Brown.

Brown most recently spent time with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, catching two passes for 25 yards in two preseason games. He was among the team’s final cuts following training camps but was re-signed by the Ticats on August 10, finishing the 2022 season on the practice roster.

Prior to signing in Hamilton, Brown spent time with the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent.

Brown played in 23 games over his final two collegiate seasons at the University of Colorado, catching 88 passes for 1,040 yards and six touchdowns while adding a score on the ground. He transferred from Texas Tech, where he played 23 games over two seasons and had 26 receptions for 373 yards and one touchdown.

The Stampeders also announced that they have placed Canadian fullback Tom Schnitzler on the retired list.

Originally drafted in the eighth round of the 2020 CFL Draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Schnitzler played one season with that organization before signing with the Stampeders as a free agent. The UBC product played in eight career games as a backup long snapper, defensive tackle, and fullback, registering three special teams tackles.
