The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian offensive lineman Sean McEwen, the team announced on Monday.

The six-foot-one, 295-pound blocker signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2025 but missed the entire season due to an ACL injury he suffered in training camp.

The 32-year-old was originally a first-round pick in the 2015 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts. He spent four seasons with the team, earning an All-CFL selection in 2017.

The Calgary native signed with his hometown Stampeders as a free agent in 2020 and spent four seasons with the club, earning All-CFL selections in 2021 and 2022. In total, he has played 132 career regular-season CFL games.

“Sean is a competitor who will bring a veteran presence to our offensive line room,” said Redblacks head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie in a statement.

“He’s a champion who will contribute to what we’re building on our offensive line and help set the standard for some of the young players we have in the building.”

The signing of McEwen has come one week after veteran centre Peter Godber announced his retirement.

The Ottawa Redblacks recently selected Purdue offensive lineman Giordano Vaccaro with their first-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft and it appears he could be a day-one starter. The team’s other major offseason additions include quarterback Jake Maier, running back Greg Bell, linebacker A.J. Allen, and strong-side linebacker C.J. Reavis.

All CFL training camps are scheduled to open on May 10. The team will play its first preseason game against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday, May 22 and its first regular-season game against the Edmonton Elks on Saturday, June 6.

In 2025, Ottawa finished fourth in the East Division standings with a 4-14 record, missing the playoffs for the fifth time in the last six seasons. Ryan Dinwiddie was hired as the team’s head coach and general manager after the firing of Bob Dyce.
