The Toronto Argonauts have signed Global defensive lineman Denzel Daxon, the team announced on Monday.

The six-foot-two, 322-pound defender was a second-round pick in the 2024 CFL Global Draft out of the University of Illinois, where he made 27 tackles over 12 games.

The native of Crooked Island, Bahamas previously played at Ohio University, where he made 11 tackles and one sack over five games.

Daxon had NFL stints as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys in 2024 and 2025, respectively, but didn’t see any regular-season action with either team.

The Argonauts have also signed 2026 CFL Draft picks Louis-Philippe Gauthier and Tyriq Quayson.

Gauthier was named an RSEQ all-star at cornerback with the Université de Montréal Carabins in 2025 and won the forty-yard dash at the CFL Combine with a time of 4.50 seconds. He was Toronto’s first of two third-round picks in the 2026 CFL Draft, taken No. 22 overall.

Quayson was the team’s sixth-round pick out of the University of Windsor. The six-foot-one, 197-pound native of Vaughan, Ont. ran a 4.54-second forty-yard dash at the CFL Invitational Combine and previously played at Wilfrid Laurier University prior to transferring to the Lancers.

The Toronto Argonauts recently selected Queen’s offensive lineman Niklas Henning with their first-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft, adding depth up front. The team’s other major offseason additions include offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley, strong-side linebacker Adarius Pickett, and defensive back DaShaun Amos.

All CFL training camps are scheduled to open on May 10. Toronto will play its first preseason game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, May 23, then its first regular-season game against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday, June 12.

In 2025, Toronto finished third in the East Division standings with a 5-13 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Mike Miller was promoted to the role of head coach following the departure of Ryan Dinwiddie.
