Early details on the new CBA aren’t great for the players

The details on the CBA are leaking out and it looks like… more of the same. At least so far.

Then there’s this….

A $50,000 jump in the salary cap over three years and no increase in the $53,000 minimum followed by a jump to $65,000 is unlikely to be seen as a big win for the players unless there were major concessions elsewhere.

The ratio was a big deal for American players, who felt that lowering the number of Canadian starters would increase their market value.

Here’s some math to illustrate the point.

Again, it’s early and we need to see the whole deal before passing judgment. But for those keeping score, the league has an early advantage.
