Saskatchewan Huskies climb U Sports rankings after dominant win over Alberta

The Saskatchewan Huskies have climbed two spots in the national U Sports rankings after dismantling the Alberta Golden Bears this past week.

The Huskies won 65-12 at Foote Field in Edmonton as veteran quarterback Anton Amundrud threw for 285 yards and six touchdowns. Lucas Scheck was Saskatchewan’s defensive standout, as he recorded six total tackles, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery in the victory.

The win pulled the team into a four-way tie for first-place in the Canada West standings alongside the Manitoba Bisons, Regina Rams, and UBC Thunderbirds at 2-1.

The Queen’s Gaels moved up one spot after crushing the Carleton Ravens by a score of 55-17. Jayce Baldwin and Jayden Gurzi-MacDonald combined for 26 touches, 242 yards from scrimmage, and two touchdowns in the win, while Alex Vreeken completed 16-of-22 pass attempts for 336 yards and four scores.

The big faller this week was the Rams, who plummeted from No. 4 to No. 7 after losing 25-20 to UBC. Regina led by 10 points at halftime but Santiago Llarena and breakout star Marvyn Larozar both scored second-half touchdowns for the home side to complete the comeback.

The Manitoba Bisons have rejoined the rankings at No. 10 after a 38-36 win over the Calgary Dinos in double overtime. Cole Anseeuw threw for 255 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in the win, with two scores going to 2026 CFL Draft pick Nathan Udoh.

The Ottawa Gee-Gees fell off the rankings after losing to the Guelph Gryphons by a score of 24-13. Josh Janssen threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns in the defeat, though he also tossed a late-game interception in Guelph territory.

The Montreal Carabins, Laval Rouge et Or, Western Mustangs, Saint Mary’s Huskies, McMaster Marauders, and Laurier Golden Hawks each held firm this week.
