The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American receiver Mathew Sexton following his release from the Ottawa Redblacks.

The five-foot-ten, 176-pound target went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft and has since had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Vegas Vipers, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, San Antonio Brahmas, and Redblacks.

The native of Clinton, Mich. dressed for 10 games with the Vipers in 2023 and four games with the Brahmas in 2025, recording 26 catches for 379 yards, and eight kick returns for 324 yards and one touchdown.

The 28-year-old played collegiately at Eastern Michigan, where he made 100 receptions for 1,135 yards and nine touchdowns over 43 games. He also returned 21 kickoffs for 353 yards and one punt for 27 yards.

The Roughriders have also moved Canadian defensive back Gideon Agyei to the retired list. The 24-year-old native of Toronto was the team’s sixth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft out of the University of Calgary.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders opened training camp on May 10. Saskatchewan will play its first preseason game against the Calgary Stampeders on Monday, May 18 and second preseason game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday, May 23. Final roster cuts are due on Saturday, May 30, after which the team will play its first regular-season game against the B.C. Lions on Saturday, June 13.

Saskatchewan recently selected Michigan State defensive back Malcolm Bell with their first-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft, adding a key piece to pair with Tevaughn Campbell. The team’s other major offseason additions include defensive lineman James Vaughters and returner James Letcher Jr.

In 2025, the Roughriders finished first in the West Division standings with a 12-6 record. The team went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, marking the club’s first championship in 12 years.
