Ottawa Redblacks bring back Eric Cumberbatch

The Ottawa Redblacks have brought back Canadian defensive back Eric Cumberbatch, the team announced on Monday.

The 23-year-old was placed on the team’s practice roster after training camp, and was then released in mid-June.

The native of Alexandria, Ont. was a fifth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft and dressed for 11 regular-season games as a rookie, recording one defensive tackle and one special teams tackle.

The six-foot-two, 200-pound defender played collegiately at the University of Ottawa, where he made 83.5 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks with Gee-Gees. He was named a first-team U Sports All-Canadian in 2023 and a two-time OUA all-star.

The Ottawa Redblacks (0-4) will visit the Edmonton Elks (3-1) at Commonwealth Stadium on Thursday, July 9 with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Redblacks are coming off a 27-22 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while the Elks suffered their first loss of the season against the B.C. Lions in Kelowna.

The weather forecast in Edmonton calls for a high of 22 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 1200 in Ottawa or 880 CHED in Edmonton.
