Ryan Reynolds trolls Kelce brothers about ‘superior sport’ of Canadian football

Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds used his commercial on New Heights to troll high-profile NFL personalities Jason and Travis Kelce about the supremacy of three-down football.

“As a fan of football, I love watching a player run the full 110 yards of the field, scoring a touchdown in the 20-yard deep end zone as all 12 players on the field celebrate,” said Reynolds during an ad read before pausing briefly, feigning as though he was receiving notes from a producer. “OK, apparently this podcast is about American football, not the superior sport of Canadian football.”

Travis seemed initially confused by the joke, saying, “That’s rugby” as Reynolds listed the characteristics of the three-down game. Once the ad read was complete, Travis seemed to come around, saying, “That’s just so good, man. He’s literally the greatest.”

The Kelce brothers have a strong connection to the CFL as Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros was their college teammate and roommate at the University of Cincinnati. The three have remained close friends ever since with Collaros sitting in their luxury suite at last year’s AFC Divisional Playoff game in Buffalo. The Kelce’s entourage included Jason, various members of the Kelce family, and pop sensation Taylor Swift, who is in a long-term relationship with Travis.

Jason retired this past off-season following a 13-year run with the Philadelphia Eagles during which he was named to the Pro Bowl seven times. He now works as an analyst for ESPN in addition to cohosting the podcast with his brother.

Travis, a nine-time Pro Bowl tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs, has caught 24 passes for 228 yards through five games this year, helping the team start the season a perfect 5-0.

Neither brother is known to have attended any of Collaros’ games in the CFL but that might change after Reynolds, a proud fan of the B.C. Lions, talked up the Canadian game.
