Taylor Elgersma will not make his UFL debut with the Birmingham Stallions on Sunday as he’s officially been listed as inactive against the Houston Gamblers. According to 3DownNation reporter Justin Dunk, the Canadian quarterback is still awaiting his P1 U.S. work visa.
The native of London, Ont. reported to training camp with the Stallions on Monday, February 23. He left the team for a few days to throw at the 2026 NFL Combine, but returned following his trip to Indianapolis.
Elgersma signed his UFL contract, but it has yet to be officially registered by the league due to the ongoing work visa process. In the meantime, he is permitted to be with the team on an unpaid basis.
The six-foot-five, 227-pound passer won the Hec Crighton Trophy at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2024, which is awarded annually to the top player in U Sports football. He then signed with the Green Bay Packers after going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 24-year-old was cut by the Packers after training camp in August and has since worked out for the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins.
The Stallions beat the Louisville Kings in their season-opener last week by a score of 15-13. Former third-round NFL draft pick Matt Corral threw for 207 yards and one touchdown in the victory, while Jaydon Mickens caught nine passes for 102 yards.
Elgersma is ineligible to play in the UFL until he receives a P1 U.S. work visa. There is no timeline for when the situation could be resolved.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers hold Elgersma’s CFL rights after selecting him in the second round of the 2025 CFL Draft.
