The Canadian Football League has held its own against other sports viewing competition.
The National Hockey League returned to action this week, including the first edition of Hockey Night in Canada for the 2024-2025 season. The 7:00 p.m. EDT window produced 1,884,300 average viewers with the 10:00 p.m. EDT window reaching 1,094,400. Amazon Prime Monday Night Hockey featured the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Montreal Canadiens, producing 651,800 viewers on French-language RDS.
The CFL has to compete with the NHL and NFL, which has been in full swing for six weeks. Thursday Night Football featured the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks and drew 891,800, while Sunday Night Football between the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants posted 751,500. Monday Night Football with the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets pushed up on 1 million with 939,700.
Meanwhile, the CFL put forth its highest average combined English and French ratings since Labour Day weekend. The Blue Bombers are in pole position to be the most-watched primarily English fanbase CFL team with the Alouettes pacing all franchises as the only one averaging over 500,000 in 2024.
