The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be without receiver Shawn Bane Jr. for the rest of the 2024 season.
The 29-year-old wrote on Instagram:
“What a journey it has been so far.
Thank you to everyone who’s been following, supporting, encouraging and loving me on this journey. Unfortunately my 2024 season has been cut short but God has been with me through it all.
Thank you to everyone in-house; coaches, teammates, our media team and the medical staff for allowing me to be me. Can’t stop, won’t stop. 2025 SBJ loading.”
Bane Jr. suffered a significant knee injury on a low hit from Ottawa Redblacks’ defensive back Money Hunter in Week 17. The 29-year-old pass catcher caught 49 passes for 581 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games this season.
In 2023, the five-foot-nine, 178-pound receiver had a breakout season. He made 93 receptions for 1,104 yards and four majors. Through parts of four seasons in the CFL, Bane Jr. has 166 catches for 2,073 yards with 11 touchdowns while averaging 12.5 yards per catch.
The Sarasota, Fla. native signed a two-year contract extension in February through the 2025 season. He’s earning $170,000 in hard money this year with a bump to $175,000 in the second season plus $12,000 more available in performance and all-star bonuses.
