The induction of late fullback Steve Molnar into the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Plaza of Honour has been deferred to 2025 at the request of his family.

The ceremony is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 12 and the Molnar family would have been unable to attend as they are currently supporting a family member through a personal health matter.

A graduate of Aden Bowman Collegiate in Saskatoon, Molnar spent ten seasons with the Roughriders from 1969 to 1978. He rushed 570 times for 2,549 yards and 20 touchdowns and caught 142 passes for 1,552 yards and two scores.

The Utah product’s best season came in 1976 when he took over the starting role from George Reed, who retired just before the start of the season. Saskatchewan reached the Grey Cup that year but narrowly lost to the Ottawa Rough Riders by a score of 23-20.

The five-foot-eleven, 200-pound ball-carrier passed away on Jan. 16, 2021 at the age of 73 in Newmarket, Ont.

Molnar was to be inducted alongside Darian Durant and Roy Shivers, who will still be enshrined on Oct. 12.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (7-7-1) will visit the Edmonton Elks (5-10) on Saturday, Oct. 5 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
