The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed former Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Cameron Dantzler to the team’s practice roster.
Dantzler was originally selected by the Vikings with the 89th overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft and earned a starting cornerback job in his first season, landing on the Pro Football Writers Association’s All-Rookie team. He would go on to play 35 games for the organization over three seasons and made 26 starts, recording 149 total tackles, six tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and 17 pass breakups.
The 26-year-old’s relationship with Minnesota became fraught after he was benched late in the 2022 campaign and he was waived the following offseason, saving the team $2.7 million. He had preseason stints with the Washington Commander, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans derailed by injury before landing on the New Orleans Saints practice roster. He was activated for two games in 2023 but did not record a statistic.
Dantzler last signed with the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas in April but never reported to the team and was placed on their suspended list.
Prior to his NFL career, the native of Hammond, La. played three seasons at Mississippi State University (2017-2019), where he was teammates with current Ticats’ cornerback Jamal Peters. In 35 games for the Bulldogs, he amassed 108 total tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, six interceptions, and 20 pass breakups. Dantzler was named second-team All-SEC in 2018.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cat (5-9) will return to action on Friday, September 27 when they visit the B.C. Lions (7-7) at 10:30 p.m. EDT.
