Rookie Canadian linebacker Geoffrey Cantin-Arku has been fined by the CFL for a high hit to the head of quarterback Jake Maier.

The play occurred early in the second quarter of a Week 15 tie between the Montreal Alouettes and Calgary Stampeders. Cantin-Arku came in after Maier completed a 12-yard pass to Marken Michel and drew a roughing-the-passer penalty. The Stampeders were unable to capitalize on the free yardage, as short-yardage QB Tommy Stevens fumbled at the goal line.

As per CFL policy, the amount of the fine was not disclosed. The maximum fine that can be assessed under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement is equal to half a game cheque.

Cantin-Arku was selected ninth overall in the 2024 CFL Draft by Montreal, the final pick in the first round. The Memphis product has been an instant contributor as a rookie, amassing 27 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles and four sacks in 13 games.

The Alouettes (10-2-1) will return to action on Saturday, September 21 when they visit the Ottawa Redblacks (8-4-1) at 3:00 p.m. EDT.
