The Edmonton Elks have added five players to their practice roster, including Canadian kicker Campbell Fair.

The six-foot-one, 180-pound specialist was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders. He attended training camp with the team and made a 36-yard field goal in preseason action but was later released. He also spent time on the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ practice roster.

The native of Carrying Place, Ont. played four collegiate seasons at the University of Ottawa and was named a second-team OUA all-star in 2022. He made 48-of-68 career field goal attempts and punted 98 times for a 37.7-yard average.

Also signed were four Americans, including defensive back Myles Brooks, receiver Dontay Demus Jr., defensive lineman John McCartan, and offensive lineman Eric Miller.

Brooks previously spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and played one game for the Montreal Alouettes this season, recording one tackle. He split his college career between Stephen F. Austin State University (2019-21) and Louisiana Tech University (2022), recording 29 tackles, three interceptions, 12 pass break-ups, and a forced fumble in his final season as a Bulldog.

Demus spent five years (2018-2022) at the University of Maryland, finishing second in school history with seven 100-yard games. The six-foot-three, 220-pound target amassed 128 receptions for 2,008 yards and 14 touchdowns in 47 games, earning him stints with the Baltimore Ravens and USFL’s Philadelphia Stars.

McCartan suited up in 54 games over his six-year career with Oregon State University (2018-23), notching 9.5 sacks, 132 total tackles, four interceptions, and 20 tackles for loss. He most recently attended training camp with the Chicago Bears.

Miller played 44 games over four seasons (2019-22) with Purdue University, before transferring to the University of Louisville as a senior in 2023. He was named an All-ACC honourable mention after allowing just two sacks and 24 quarterback hurries over 920 blocking snaps, earning an undrafted free agent opportunity with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Edmonton Elks (5-8) will return to action on Saturday, September 21 when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-6) at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
