The Edmonton Elks have released Canadian linebacker Woodly Appolon.

The 28-year-old was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the fifth round of the 2022 CFL Draft but never played a down with the club, as he was acquired via a trade by the Elks in February of 2023 in exchange for a second-round pick in that year’s draft. Former head coach and general manager Chris Jones called the move a “bargain,” as it reunited Woodly with his twin brother, Wesly Appolon, with the Green and Gold.

In two seasons with Edmonton, the Montreal native suited up for 17 games and recorded five special teams tackles, including one this year. His brother was released in May.

The Elks (5-8) are currently on a bye week but will return to action on Saturday, September 21 when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-6).
