Franchise quarterback Zach Collaros was a full participant in practice with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old passer left the Labour Day Classic against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday after taking a headshot from defensive tackle Miles Brown, who was called for roughing the passer. Collaros didn’t return, finishing the game with 218 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Head coach Mike O’Shea called the decision to hold him out of the second half “precautionary.”
The native of Steubenville, Ohio has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 2,701 yards, seven touchdowns, and 13 interceptions over 11 starts this season, posting a 5-6 record. He recently surpassed 30,000 career passing yards, sitting at 31,300 yards with 189 touchdowns and 99 interceptions.
Veteran offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld, who has missed the team’s last four games due to a knee injury, was also a full participant on Wednesday. Franchise left tackle Stanley Bryant was a limited participant after missing the Labour Day Classic due to illness.
Adam Bighill, who was spotted on crutches after Sunday’s game, did not practice due to a knee injury. Rookie fullback Michael Chris-Ike (foot) and linebacker Brian Cole (foot) were full participants.
The Blue Bombers (6-6) will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-6-1) on Saturday, Sept. 7 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. Winnipeg has won the past four Banjo Bowls by a combined score of 173-45 and holds an all-time lead of 12-7 in the annual rivalry game.
