The Canadian Football League expects large television ratings for its Labour Day games and the broadcasts delivered in 2024.
Four games during the holiday weekend averaged almost 640,000 viewers on TSN, which was an increase of slightly more than one percent from 2023. Saskatchewan’s annual Labour Day Classic against rival Winnipeg was down over 100,000 but the Monday games were both up.
The Tiger-Cats 31-28 upset win at Tim Hortons Field versus the Argonauts produced over 23,000 more viewers than one year ago while the Elks 35-20 victory against the Stampeders had 38,000 and change extra onlookers on TV. One note: the Blue Jays did not play but the MLB team did take the field last year on the Labour Day Monday.
There were 290,500 people in the 25-54 age demographic who watched the Blue Bombers win 35-33 in an entertaining game at new Mosaic Stadium, which set an attendance record (33,861) in the process. The other CFL games EDM-CGY 201,200, OTT-BC 130,300 and TOR-HAM 127,900 did into the six-figures in the same category.
Viewers in every demo boosted the three-down league to its first 600,000-plus average English ratings week this year. The CFL went well over 500,000 the week leading into Labour Day weekend.
