The Ottawa Redblacks have signed American receiver Maurice Ffrench following injuries to Bralon Addison and Jaelon Acklin.
The five-foot-eleven, 200-pound target started four games at slotback for the Edmonton Elks in 2023, making 15 catches for 190 yards and one touchdown. He was cut after then-head coach and general manager Chris Jones claimed Ffrench didn’t block well enough.
The native of New Brunswick, N.J. signed with Ottawa’s practice roster following his release from Edmonton but was released during the off-season.
The 25-year-old went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft but signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and spent his rookie year on their practice roster. He spent the following season with the Los Angeles Chargers, dressing for one game.
The Redblacks (7-2-1) are scheduled to visit the B.C. Lions (5-6) on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Victoria, B.C. for Touchdown Pacific. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
