Canadian offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley has been waived by the Dallas Cowboys but is expected to join their practice roster, per sources.
The 29-year-old spent the latter half of the 2023 season on the practice roster in Dallas. He was initially in training camp with the Indianapolis Colts but was released following a month-long stint on the team’s practice roster.
The six-foot-five, 317-pound blocker dressed for four games with the Cowboys in 2022, playing a total of 30 snaps. He joined the team after being waived by the Seattle Seahawks after training camp.
Shepley spent the 2021 season with the Seahawks after he was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. He suited up for eight games with the team but did not see any offensive snaps.
The University of British Columbia product made his NFL debut with the 49ers in 2020 after being called up from the practice squad in Week 14. He dressed for the final three games of the regular season.
Shepley was a first-round pick of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2018 CFL Draft. He signed with the team in March 2019 following a stint with the New York Jets and started 14 games at right guard that season, winning the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie award.
The native of Windsor, Ont. opted out of his CFL contract in August 2020 to pursue the NFL and signed a one-year deal with the 49ers. His contract with the Riders has since expired, allowing him to sign with any team in the CFL should he choose to return north of the border.
NFL teams were required to make their final cuts on Tuesday, Aug. 27 ahead of the regular season.
