B.C. Lions head coach and co-general manager Rick Campbell was non-committal regarding his team’s quarterback situation following a 34-27 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks at TD Place Stadium this past weekend.
“We’ll see,” Campbell told 980 CKNW. “We didn’t take him on this trip (to Ottawa) to try to help speed along his knee but Vernon will be in the conversation when he is 100 percent healthy and ready to play. (We) feel very lucky that we have both these guys.”
Nathan Rourke has struggled in two starts since returning from the NFL, completing 53.6 percent of his passes for 360 yards and three interceptions in losses to Winnipeg and Ottawa. Thus far, he hasn’t resembled the quarterback who was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2022 after completing 78.7 percent of his passes for 3,349 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Vernon Adams Jr. was the consensus midseason front-runner to win Most Outstanding Player as he completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 2,469 yards, 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He has missed the club’s last three games due to a knee injury he sustained against the Blue Bombers on Aug. 1, which Campbell classified as “week-to-week.”
The Lions have lost five straight games ahead of Touchdown Pacific, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31 at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria, B.C., where B.C. will host the second half of a home-and-home with the Redblacks.
