Canadian defensive lineman Lwal Uguak has been waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an injury designation.

Uguak made two solo tackles, one sack and knocked down one pass during three NFL preseason games.

Players who clear waivers with an injury designation revert to the team’s injured reserve unless the athlete reaches an injury settlement for being released within five days.

Uguak worked out for the Bucs on December 12 last year and signed with the team in January. He attended rookie minicamps with the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons in 2023 but wasn’t offered a contract by either team.

The six-foot-four, 261-pounder had an outstanding rookie year with the Montreal Alouettes in 2023. He recorded 17 tackles and four sacks plus five tackles in the East Semi-Final, one tackle in the East Final, and five tackles in the 110th Grey Cup to help the Als win.

Uguak’s exclusive CFL rights belong to the Alouettes through February 2026.

The 24-year-old transferred to Texas Christian University in 2022 and dressed for 14 games in a rotational role with the Horned Frogs as the team reached the National Championship Game against the University of Georgia. He made nine total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery during the season.

The Edmonton native played at the University of Connecticut from 2018 to 2021 where he recorded 69 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, four knockdowns, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over 34 career games with the Huskies. The team did not play in 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uguak recorded a 4.96-second forty-yard dash at TCU’s pro day along with a 29-inch vertical, nine-foot, eight-inch broad jump, and 18 reps on the bench. He clocked a 7.52-second three-cone and a 4.65-second short shuttle.
