The New York Giants have signed Canadian defensive back Jonathan Sutherland following a workout with the team.

The five-foot-eleven, 202-pound defender was released by the Seattle Seahawks last month. He participated in training camp with the team in 2023 before being waived with an injury designation. He returned to Seattle’s practice roster in October and was on it for the rest of the season.

Sutherland clocked a 4.58-second forty-yard dash at his pro day at Penn State. He also leaped 37.5 inches in the vertical jump, 123 inches in the broad jump, ran a 4.13-second short shuttle, a 6.87-second three-cone drill, and put up 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench.

The native of Ottawa, Ont. made 136 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery over 56 collegiate games with the Nittany Lions. He was also a four-time team captain.

The Montreal Alouettes hold Sutherland’s exclusive CFL rights after selecting him with the fifth overall pick of last year’s draft.
