900 CHML, former radio partner of Hamilton Tiger-Cats, goes off the air

900 CHML went off the air on Wednesday following a 97-year run in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

The Corus Entertainment product was shuttered citing a “shift of advertising revenues to unregulated foreign platforms” as well as regulatory challenges and a competitive media landscape.

“We want to extend our profound gratitude to all of our listeners, valued advertisers, and community partners — thank you for your steadfast support throughout the years,” a statement from the station read. “Your loyalty and this community have been the foundation of our station’s legacy, and we deeply value the connection we’ve shared with you.”

900 CHML held the exclusive radio broadcasting rights for the Tiger-Cats from 1950 to 2013 with Norm Marshall, Perc Allen, John Badham, Bob Bratina, Bob Hooper, Tim Micallef, and Rick Zamperin all serving as the play-by-play voice of the team. The station was still home to The 5th Quarter, a popular postgame show hosted by Zamperin.

The Tiger-Cats released the following statement regarding 900 CHML’s closure.
