Canadian quarterback Tre Ford’s ribs seem to be feeling fine.
“It’s going to be a day-to-day type thing. We’re going to wait and see how he is in practice,” Edmonton Elks’ interim general manager Geroy Simon told 630 CHED radio. “He’s in great spirits and he told me he’s ready to go. We’re going to wait and see how everything plays out day-to-day throughout this week getting ready for Hamilton.”
The injury occurred when Ford was sacked by defensive end Sione Teuhema after being chased down by linebacker Ryder Varga, whose arm appeared to contact Ford’s neck. Edmonton challenged for roughing the passer, though the ruling on the field stood following a review from the command centre.
Ford left his team’s win over the B.C. Lions on Sunday and did not return. The Niagara Falls, Ont. native completed six-of-six passes for 96 yards and carried the ball twice for 11 yards, exiting the game late in the second quarter with his team leading 16-10.
The six-foot-one, 195-pound QB improved to 2-0 as a starter in 2024 after the Elks began the season 0-7 with McLeod Bethel-Thompson under centre. Ford completed 18-of-22 passes for 252 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while rushing five times for 46 yards in a 42-31 win at Mosaic Stadium in Week 9.
Ford entered in the fourth quarter for Bethel-Thompson during Edmonton’s Week 8 loss to the Tiger-Cats, completing 11-of-17 passes for 125 with three touchdown passes. He also ran four times for 22 yards in less than 10 minutes.
The Elks signed Bethel-Thompson for around $500,000 in the offseason. The 36-year-old completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 1,788 yards with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions during a winless start to the season.
In 2023, Ford completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 2,069 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He carried the ball 66 times for 622 yards along with three touchdowns while leading Edmonton to its four wins.
The Edmonton Elks (2-7) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-7) on Saturday, Aug. 17 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
