The Los Angeles Chargers have released Canadian quarterback Casey Bauman.

The six-foot-six, 229-pound passer signed with the team in April after going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft. He didn’t attempt a pass during L.A.’s recent 16-3 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Bauman spent the past two seasons starting for Augustana University, a Division II program located in Sioux Falls, S.D. He completed 61.0 percent of his passes for 4,160 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions over 21 games with the Vikings and rushed for 572 yards and six touchdowns.

The 24-year-old started his collegiate career at Montana State where he spent three seasons, completing 51.1 percent of his passes for 477 yards and two touchdowns. He went 2-1 as a starter.

Bauman was raised along the border in Sumas, Wash. but qualified for Canadian citizenship through his mother, Kelli, who was born in Abbotsford, B.C. He was added to the 2024 CFL Draft in early March after receiving his citizenship, though he went unselected.

The big-bodied passer clocked a 4.86-second forty-yard dash, 7.28-second three-cone, and 4.33-second short shuttle at the CFL Combine in Winnipeg. He also jumped 33 inches in the vertical and 117 inches in the broad jump.

Bauman was released alongside receiver Praise Olatoke, a Nigerian-born, Scottish-raised athlete who used to run track at Trinity Western University in B.C.
