Edmonton Elks’ quarterback Tre Ford left the team’s 33-16 win over the B.C. Lions on Sunday due to injury and did not return.
The native of Niagara Falls, Ont. completed six-of-six pass attempts for 96 yards and carried the ball twice for 11 yards, exiting the game late in the second quarter with his team leading 16-10.
The injury occurred when Ford was sacked by defensive end Sione Teuhema after being chased down by linebacker Tyler Varga, whose arm appeared to contact Ford’s neck. Edmonton challenged for roughing the passer, though the ruling on the field stood following a review from the command centre.
Based on the clips of Ford throwing on the sideline after the injury occurred, he appeared to be favouring his ribs.
“We’ll see what happens — I think he got hit in the ribs a little bit, maybe,” said head coach Jarious Jackson postgame. “We’ll see if it’s cartilage, we’ll see if it’s ribs. We’ll find out in the morning what’s going on with him.”
McLeod Bethel-Thompson finished the game in Ford’s place, completing 14-of-18 pass attempts for 171 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
The Edmonton Elks (2-7) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-7) on Saturday, Aug. 17 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
