The B.C. Lions hope there is something valuable in a name, as they have signed American quarterback Brennan Armstrong to their practice roster.

The six-foot-two, 215-pound pivot played 41 games at the University of Virginia from 2018 to 2022, departing as the Cavaliers’ all-time record-holder in 15 different statistical categories including career passing yards and passing touchdowns. In 30 starts, he completed 685-of-1,131 attempts (60.6 percent) for 9,034 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,267 yards and 20 majors.

Armstrong transferred to NC State University as a senior in 2023 but struggled to find his footing, being replaced as starter after five games. After his replacement opted to redshirt and transfer, the native of Shelby, Ohio returned for the final four games and finished 160-of-262 passing (61.1 percent) for 1,785 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also set a Wolfpack record with 665 rushing yards and seven majors.

Between his two stops, Armstrong became the most prolific left-handed passer in the history of the Atlantic Coast Conference and sits fourth all-time among NCAA lefties with 10,819 career passing yards. He went unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft but had mini-camp tryouts with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The B.C. Lions (5-3) will visit the Edmonton Elks (1-7) on Sunday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. They will be without franchise quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. for that game and potentially the next several weeks due to a knee injury, with Jake Dolegala getting the start and Chase Brice backing up.
