The Saskatchewan Roughriders have ruled veteran quarterback Trevor Harris out for the team’s Week 10 game against the Ottawa Redblacks.

Harris went the full six games on the injured list, his base salary and housing money, $67,766.66, does not count against the $5.525 million salary cap plus his $1,500 per game playtime bonus, $76,766.66 total. The Riders’ savings would be minus money paid to rookie CFL QB Eric Barriere who was added to the active roster in Harris’ absence and Shea Patterson’s playtime incentives, $750 per game.

He returned to practice Monday and Tuesday but won’t be activated for Thursday night’s game in the nation’s capital.

“He was out there at practice slinging it,” Mace said. “He looked like Trev.”

The 38-year-old passer left the Riders’ win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 3 shortly before halftime, suffering an MCL sprain in his left knee on a hit from defensive end Nick Usher. He returned to the sideline to start the second half and warmed up wearing a brace but did not take another snap, eventually landing on the six-game injured list.

In January, the Riders converted his $250,000 February 1 roster bonus into a signing bonus within his reworked 2024 contract. He has a $189,500 base salary, $15,000 in marketing money, $13,800 in housing and $5,000 in travel for $473,300 total in hard money. Harris has playtime incentives worth up to $27,000, broken down to $1,500 per game for playing 51 percent or more of the offensive snaps.

Harris signed with the Green and White as a free agent in 2023 but was limited to five games due to suffering a tibial plateau fracture in his right leg. The break required surgery and ended his first season in Regina after completing 67 percent of his passes for 1,274 passing yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions.

Through parts of three games this year, the Waldo, Oh. native completed 72 percent of his passes for 872 passing yards with seven touchdowns and three picks. Over 12 CFL seasons with Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Montreal, and Saskatchewan, Harris has thrown for 30,756 passing yards with 167 touchdowns and 78 interceptions.

Patterson has started five games in Harris’ place, producing a 2-3 win-loss record while completing 62 percent of his passes for 1,300 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, plus 22 carries for 103 yards and four majors.

The 27-year-old Patterson starts his sixth game. However, he’ll be without right tackle Jacob Brammer (hamstring), left guard Ryan Sceviour (elbow), running back A.J. Ouellette (hip) and receiver KeeSean Johnson (head) on offence versus the Redblacks. Defensively, veteran middle linebacker Jameer Thurman has an elbow injury that’s kept him out of the lineup in Ottawa.
