The East Division swept an all-interdivision slate in Week 8 of the CFL season, extending their early head-to-head lead over the West Division to 12-6.
The Montreal Alouettes completed a second-half comeback over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Toronto Argonauts took advantage of key mistakes from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Ottawa Redblacks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats pummelled the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Elks, respectively.
The CFL returned to a balanced schedule in 2024 for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, raising the number of interdivisional regular season games to 40. There were only 24 interdivisional games during a truncated regular season in 2021 and 32 amid unbalanced schedules in 2022 and 2023.
The East Division won the head-to-head matchup against the West Division last season 19-13, albeit on a shorter schedule. Since 2005, the East Division has won the regular season series against the West Division on a balanced schedule only once, finishing 22-18 in 2015.
The West Division has historically dominated the East Division in the CFL, holding an all-time winning percentage of .564 and capturing the season series in 16 of the past 18 years. Though there are 22 interdivisional games remaining this regular season, the East Division is well on its way to claiming another title this year.
Week 9 will feature only one interdivisional game as the Toronto Argonauts (4-3) visit the Calgary Stampeders (3-4) at McMahon Stadium.
