There hasn’t been much in the way of good news for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of late but the team will get a big boost in their secondary against the Calgary Stampeders.

Two-time CFL all-star Deatrick Nichols will return to his usual boundary halfback spot after missing last week with a shoulder injury. His replacement Week 3 replacement, Marquise Bridges, will remain on the roster in a backup capacity while Global linebacker Souleymane Karamoko comes off due to injury.

The native of Miami, Fla. has made 128 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, four interceptions, one sack, and one forced fumble over 49 career games since joining the Blue Bombers as a free agent in 2021.

On the other side of the ball, the team won’t be so lucky. Following the devastating news on Thursday that leading receiver Dalton Schoen will be out for the remainder of the season, rookie Keric Wheatfall (knee) was also placed on the six-game injured list. The pair join all-star Kenny Lawler, who has been missing since Week 1 with a fractured arm.

Canadians Nic Demski and Drew Wolitarsky are the only veterans remaining in the receiving corps, with the next most experienced player being American Ontaria Wilson with three starts to his name. Second-year Canadian Jeremy Murphy will draw into the lineup, as will American rookie Josh Johnson.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-3) will visit the Calgary Stampeders (1-1) on Saturday, June 29 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
