Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ receiver Dalton Schoen will be out for the remainder of the 2024 season, according to a new report from TSN’s Dave Naylor on 980 CJME.
Schoen was placed on the six-game injured list on Monday after suffering a non-contact knee injury in his team’s Week 3 loss to the B.C. Lions. By making the move prior to the first practice of the week, the Bombers were not obligated to disclose the nature of the injury and head coach Mike O’Shea was typically vague in his explanations.
“It’s going to be a while (before he’s healthy again),” Mike O’Shea told reporters on Monday. “He’ll be on the six-game (injured list) and we’ll see after that.”
It now appears that the native of Overland Park, Kan. will miss the remainder of the year, delivering a devastating blow to a franchise already missing one all-star receiver long-term in Kenny Lawler, who suffered an arm fracture in the season-opener.
Schoen signed a one-year deal worth $230,000 to stay with Winnipeg this offseason. He has made 155 catches for 2,822 yards and 26 touchdowns over 37 games since joining the Blue Bombers in 2022, helping the club make back-to-back appearances in the Grey Cup.
The 27-year-old was named a CFL all-star in each of the past two seasons, leading the league in receiving touchdowns both times. He won Most Outstanding Rookie in 2022 after also leading the league in receiving yardage.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-3) will visit the Calgary Stampeders (1-1) on Saturday, June 29 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
