The Edmonton Elks will have Canadian offensive lineman Brett Boyko in the lineup for the first time this season when they take on the B.C. Lions on Thursday night.

The six-foot-seven, 305-pound native of Saskatoon, Sask. missed the first two games of the season due to a head injury and was a healthy scratch last week. He will start at right tackle with Hunter Steward moving inside to right guard in place of Tomas Jack-Kurdyla, who has been moved to the six-game injured list due to a knee injury.

Canadian receiver Gavin Cobb will make his first start of the season at slotback, replacing Hergy Mayala, who suffered a hamstring injury. Canadian linebacker Josiah Schakel, who missed Edmonton’s last two games with an ankle injury, will dress in place of the injured Michael Brodrique.

The Elks are off to an 0-3 start for the third straight season under head coach and general manager Chris Jones following narrow losses to Saskatchewan, Montreal, and Toronto. The team will be playing on only four days of rest, which prompted starting quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to rip the CFL’s schedule-makers.

The Lions will have franchise quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. in the lineup despite him being listed as questionable due to an abdominal injury, though veteran linebacker Ben Hladik will miss the game due to a thumb injury.

The Edmonton Elks (0-3) will visit the B.C. Lions (2-1) on Thursday, June 27 with kickoff slated for 10:00 p.m. EDT.
