The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be missing one of their top free-agent acquisitions for their rematch with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday.
American defensive tackle Dewayne Hendrix (hamstring) has been placed on the one-game injured list after missing the entire week of practice. The 28-year-old has been quiet through two games for the Tabbies, making just one tackle.
The six-foot-four, 270-pound native of O’Dallon, Ill. has made 65 defensive tackles, 10 tackles for loss, eight sacks, six pass knockdowns, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery over 40 career CFL games — 38 of which came as a member of the Toronto Argonauts. He had a breakout season in 2023, recording 23 tackles, six sacks, and one forced fumble.
Rookie Trevon Mason will make his first career start in place of Hendrix. The University of Arizona product had a stellar preseason, collecting five tackles, including three for loss, and a sack in two games. Canadian Reece Martin will also return to the lineup in a depth role.
Canadian offensive lineman Evan Johnson has been removed from the roster as a healthy scratch, joining American running back Greg Bell and linebacker DQ Thomas. Special teams ace Carthell Flowers-Lloyd (hamstring) remains on the one-game injured list for another week.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-2) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-0) on Sunday, June 23 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
