The Saskatchewan Roughriders are adding three icons to their Plaza of Honour, including quarterback Darian Durant, general manager Roy Shivers, and fullback Steve Molnar.

“I can’t think of three greater people to induct into the Plaza of Honour, as all three men have made an immeasurable impact on the Saskatchewan Roughriders,” said Steve Mazurak, the chair of the Plaza of Honour selection committee in a statement.

“Among their many accomplishments, Darian Durant and Steve Molnar have seven Grey Cup appearances between them, and Roy Shivers made history when he hired Danny Barrett to become the first Black GM/Head Coach tandem in professional football. On behalf of all of Rider Nation, as well as the selection committee, I want to congratulate them on this great honour.”

Durant remains the second-leading passer in club history, throwing for 28,507 yards, 149 touchdowns, and 99 interceptions over 157 games with the Roughriders. The native of Florence, S.C. won two Grey Cups in Riderville, including one as a starter in 2013 as part of a decade-long run with the team from 2006 to 2016 during which he led the CFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns once respectively.

Shivers became the first Black general manager in CFL history with the Birmingham Barracudas in 1995. He served as Saskatchewan’s general manager from 2000 to 2006, posting a regular season record of 52-64-1 and a postseason record of 3-4.

Molnar played for the Roughriders from 1969 to 1978, replacing the retired George Reed at fullback in 1976. He rushed for a career-best 144 yards in the West Final in 1976, helping power the Riders to a 23-13 win over the Edmonton Football Team. The native of Saskatoon, Sask. passed away in 2021 at the age of 73.

The selection committee consists of eight members, including Mazurak, former players Al Ford, Cleveland Van, and Wes Cates, journalist and broadcaster Don Hewitt, team board member Terri Strunk, former board chair Barry Clarke, and in-house reporter and historian Rob Vanstone.

Durant, Shivers, and Molnar — who will be represented by his son, Jeremy — will be enshrined during a halftime ceremony at Mosaic Stadium on Oct. 12 when the Riders host the B.C. Lions.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-0) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-1) at Tim Hortons Field on Sunday, June 16 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
