The Toronto Argonauts have released American defensive lineman Shawn Oakman and Canadian defensive lineman Benoit Marion.

Oakman was a healthy scratch in Week 1 with Jake Ceresna, Jared Brinkman, and Jordan Williams dressing at defensive tackle.

Ceresna, who was acquired from Edmonton via trade this off-season, made four defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble in his debut with the Argonauts, while Brinkman was named 3DownNation’s defensive player of the week after notching two sacks and one forced fumble.

Oakman made 27 defensive tackles, six sacks, and one forced fumble over 15 games last season. In total, the six-foot-nine, 287-pound defender recorded 90 defensive tackles, 18 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 45 regular season games with Toronto, earning a CFL all-star selection in 2021 and an East Division all-star selection in 2022.

Marion dressed for Toronto’s first game of the season in a depth role and recorded one special teams tackle.

The six-foot-five, 250-pound defender made one defensive tackle, nine special teams tackles, two forced fumbles, and one sack over 16 games with Toronto this past season, serving in a depth role.

The native of Montreal was a third-round pick of the Alouettes in the 2020 CFL Draft but was released before his rookie season got underway. He joined the Argonauts as a free agent shortly thereafter and has made seven defensive tackles, 12 special teams tackles, one sack, and two forced fumbles over 32 career CFL games.

The Argonauts are currently on bye after opening the 2024 season with a 35-27 win over the B.C. Lions.
