Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign QB Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Miami Dolphins’ star Tua

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed American quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, to their practice roster.

The 24-year-old most recently attended rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals, though he wasn’t signed by either team.

The five-foot-eleven, 200-pound passer played 41 collegiate games over four seasons at the University of Maryland where he completed 67.1 percent of his pass attempts for 11,256 yards, 76 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions. He also rushed for 206 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The native of ‘Ewa Beach, Hawaii finished his collegiate career as the all-time passing leader in the Big Ten Conference, ranking ahead of Curtis Painter, Adam Weber, Drew Brees, and Clayton Thorson. He is also Maryland’s all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and completions.

Tagovailoa originally started his collegiate career at the University of Alabama where his brother, Tua, played quarterback. Tua was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins and has since thrown for 12,639 yards, 81 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions over 53 career NFL games.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-1) will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-0) at Tim Hortons Field on Sunday, June 16 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
