Saskatchewan Roughriders sign former CFL all-star DB Marcus Sayles

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back Marcus Sayles, who was released by the B.C. Lions following training camp.

The five-foot-nine, 176-pound defender suited up in all 18 games in his fourth season with the Lions in 2023, recording 38 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and seven pass breakups. Sayles also contributed seven tackles and an interception in two playoff games.

The 29-year-old native of Alpharetta, Ga. had a career year with the Lions in 2022, collecting 68 defensive tackles and four interceptions to be named a CFL all-star. He was previously named a West Division all-star in 2019 as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, helping that team win a Grey Cup.

In 83 career CFL games with the Blue Bombers and Lions, Sayles has collected 294 defensive tackles, 10 special teams tackles, four sacks, 12 interceptions and seven forced fumbles.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (0-0) will visit the Edmonton Elks (0-0) on Saturday, June 8 at Commonwealth Stadium with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m. EDT.
