The Edmonton Elks have brought back American receiver Jerminic Smith, adding him to the team’s practice roster.

The six-foot-one, 184-pound native of Garland, Texas made seven receptions for 38 yards during the team’s preseason games against the Saskatchewan Roughriders and B.C. Lions. He was released as part of the team’s final roster cutdown.

The 28-year-old played three games with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2019, recording eight receptions for 87 yards. He spent the past two seasons with the Frisco Fighters of the Indoor Football League, registering 143 receptions for 1,813 yards and 33 touchdowns.

The Elks will open the regular season on Saturday, June 8 when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The game’s start time has been moved up to avoid conflict with the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals, which will feature the Edmonton Oilers for the first time since 2006.
