B.C. Lions release former all-star DB Marcus Sayles amid final cuts

The B.C. Lions have released 12 players amid final roster cuts, including all-star halfback Marcus Sayles and former second-round draft pick Siriman Harrison Bagayogo.

Sayles suited up in all 18 games in his fourth season with the Lions in 2023, recording 38 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and seven pass breakups. Sayles also contributed seven tackles and an interception in two playoff games.

The five-foot-nine, 176-pound halfback had a career year in 2022, collecting 68 defensive tackles and four interceptions to be named a CFL all-star. He was previously named a West Division all-star in 2019 as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, helping that team win a Grey Cup.

In 83 career CFL games with the Bombers and Lions, Sayles has collected 294 defensive tackles, 10 special teams tackles, four sacks, 12 interceptions and seven forced fumbles.

Bagayogo was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2023 CFL Draft and dressed for 15 games last year as a backup cornerback, recording six defensive tackles and three special teams tackles.

The native of Bois-des-Filion, Que. played 22 games with the University of Guelph Gryphons, recording 40 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass knockdowns. He was a two-time first-team U Sports All-Canadian and two-time OUA all-star.

The Lions will open their regular season on Sunday, June 9 when they visit the Toronto Argonauts at 7:00 p.m. ET.
