The Montreal Alouettes have released 20 players ahead of the CFL’s roster cutdown deadline, including prized free agent signing Tevin Jones and NFL veteran Aaron Lynch.

Jones caught 65 passes for 882 yards and three touchdowns last season as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, before moving over to Montreal in free agency.

The 31-year-old initially signed with Saskatchewan in 2021 but was released prior to the start of training camp to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He rejoined the Riders in 2022 and dressed for 31 games over two seasons with the club, making 85 catches for 1,147 yards and six touchdowns.

The six-foot-two, 225-pound target went unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft before stints with the Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys. He dressed for five games with the Steelers in 2019, making four catches for 61 yards.

Lynch signed with the Alouettes on May 20 after spending the last three years retired from football. The six-foot-five, 285-pound pass rusher was a fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of the University of South Florida by the San Francisco 49ers. He dressed for 44 games with the team and made 19 starts, recording 83 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, seven pass knockdowns, and one fumble recovery.

The 31-year-old signed with the Chicago Bears in 2018 and spent two seasons with the team, making 22 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception over 29 games with three starts. He played his final NFL season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020 and made six total tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and one pass knockdown over eight games.

In total, Lynch recorded 111 total tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 21 sacks, 11 pass knockdowns, one interception, and one fumble recovery over 81 career NFL games. According to Spotrac, he earned just under $9.7 million playing in the league.
